We are a family of two humans and four cats on the verge of experiencing homelessness. My husband (Sergio, 36) and I (Anna, 33) are two Brazilian immigrants living in the US since 2016. In July 2021 we left our home in California to pursue what we thought was a legitimate job opportunity in the Midwest, but it was not. As soon as we understood we’d been conned, we got the last little bit we had left and came back to California. We arrived in the beginning of September and both of us started working fairly quickly, but not having a home eats out our resources faster than we can gather them. It’s been almost two months and even though we’ve been working literally every. single. day. since then (more than 14h on most days), we still haven’t been able to gather enough to move into an apartment, and even found ourselves sleeping in the car for a few occasions (which we won’t be able to do once winter sets). Asking for help is not easy and finding the words for it is a struggle, but it feels like the only possible option right now.
The six of us will be forever grateful for every donation.
