with your support, seeking to close the gap between urgent living expenses (especially housing loss risk) and close to depleted earnings as an indie artist.
it has been an incredibly difficult year for me for the following reasons:
1) declining health (primarily tied to cardiac issues) as well as loss of some ability to be productive due to health.
2) massive loss of income. i have lost over 80% of income because people who once kindly supported indie photography and writing (whether as patrons, customers etc) no longer can because they themselves have lost some or all of their own income, which creates a painful situation for us all. trying to survive on almost none of my income while e.g. housing is double the cost now versus start of pandemic is proving untenable.
3) shift in my fields and opportunity decline. i am open to leaving my fields altogether to seek other employment, as the arts are being actively destroyed. i have been looking for a while, actually. however, the current labor market is difficult for existing traditional workers already, let alone long-time indie workers attempting to re-enter it, while both early middle-aged and ill.
i have continued my own efforts with whatever labor i can, of course.
i have patreon, though the earnings from it have declined by over 75% since my original start in 2017. patreon, the company, markets a "free tier" that they added in 2023, so while followings grow in size, income declines. i appreciate all paid patrons, always. patreon does not adequately cover housing, let alone all survival expenses for me though.
i also have my online shop where i offer my book (a decade of indie writing on film/tv), tees, my photography prints and more. i appreciate all the support from customers as they sporadically come. however, many people have told me that they wish they could support but are unable to as they too are struggling with survival.
these funds will help me retain housing (which is needed immediately) and access healthcare/basic needs until i find other employment.
funds will immediately go to these vital expenses. thanks so much.
