The Lahaina fire is something that has not only affected individuals, but our entire community and lāhui. But in the midst of this tragedy, kanaka have come together to help others in need.
Our family is restoring our property, which is Ogawa Apartments. The plan originally to get everything done within the next year, but due to this tragedy we’re working to get this ready as soon as possible to house families who lost their homes due to the Lahaina fires. On our property we have an apartment complex of 10 units, along with a five bedroom house and a three bedroom house. We currently have four apartment units ready and housing four families that have lost their homes to the Lahaina fire. We need to finish the rest of the apartments and the two houses to help those in need. All proceeds will be going directly to funding the restoration and development of the property so we can be able to house a total of 14 families in need. We will be housing these families for the amount of time it takes to rebuild their homes, which will be a minimum of 2-4 years. We’re not looking for only financial assistance, we’re also looking for man power. If anyone is willing to donate their time and hands, PLEASE come and assist. We’ve had assistance from Habitat for Humanity and they’ve graciously donated time to help, beds, bedding, food and clothing for the families we have and others that will be coming once more units are available. Anything will help. Do not feel like it’s a necessity to help. We completely understand the impact this has on our lāhui. Our ‘āina will never be the same. Please help, but only donate what you can.
