Artist Statement:
HouseHusbands is a film that has never been more relevant. We are working to break down traditional gender-oriented stereotypes around the roles of men and women in society through a nuanced and passionate portrayal of the forceful separation of one's work life and their home life. Our goal is to spark conversations within spaces comfortable and uncomfortable, allowing any viewer, no matter their background, to be able to have their perceptions of the world around them profoundly changed.
Our film is one that requires many elements such as extensive production design elements, high-quality equipment, the hiring of professional talent and the feeding of our cast and crew! The success of this film relies just as much on our talented production team as it does the generosity of its supporters! Detailed here is a breakdown of our budgetary needs for each department:
Budget Breakdown:
- Production Design - $2,500. Our film is a period piece that relies heavily on production design to immerse audiences in the world we are creating. Everything our actors interact with to our floor to ceiling decorations for our interiors need to be accounted for in our production.
- Locations - $1,000. We anticipate a location fee for the locations we would like to acquire for the film, so accounting for these expenses is crucial.
- Catering - $1,000. We will have a crew of 30-50 people on our set over the course of three days and we need to keep everyone going throughout the rigors of filming a short film!
- Camera + G&E - $1,500. Our Camera and G&E team are bringing immense creative talent and passion to our production and they have designed exciting and unique camera movements that require additional equipment rentals.
- Costumes - $1,500. The era that this film takes place in is no more visually present than in its clothing. We want to acquire period-accurate clothing to match the iconography of our production design and be able to help our actors immerse themselves even further into their roles.
- Hair and Makeup - $800. To match the clothing of the era, we envision our Hair and Makeup department to have specific needs to help build the visual identity of our film through the look of our actors.
- Distribution - $1,000. As we work further into post-production, we will incur additional costs in order to submit our film to festivals and distribute our film. Festival submissions can cost anywhere between $10-$50 per submission and we plan to use a portion of the funds to do our festival run next year, with leftover funds going towards marketing.
