Hi everyone. My Grandfather, Melvin Wilton, lost all of his belongings in a house fire last Friday in Deer Lake. An electrical fire started in the other side of the duplex due to the outdoor GCFI outlet which led to irreparable fire, water, and smoke damage to his belongings. He did not have insurance on his home and replacing the items will be a personal expense. Our family is hoping to raise money to replace his furniture and other items. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.
Melvin and Elsie (my Grandmother) lived in that home for over 40 years. When my parents family home burned down 20 years ago they took us in when we had nowhere to go. My Grandparents have also been very involved in the community of Deer Lake for a very long time, especially through the Lions Club, Royal Canadian Legion, and the Canadian Cancer Society. When Elsie passed in 2019, Melvin chose to stay in the home they had shared for so many years. We are thankful that we were able to bury Elsie’s urn back in May of this year, as it would have been inside the home on the top level which received the most direct damage.
This news is devastating to the whole family, and we are hoping to be able to help Melvin get back on his feet. Anything helps, thank you for taking the time to read this.
This fundraiser is the only one directly approved by Melvin and the only fundraiser directly benefiting him at this time. If you are unsure of other fundraising events taking place listing him as a beneficiary, please email me [email redacted].ca
All funds raised will be going to Melvin to purchase furniture and other items lost in the fire.
