Only God knows why bad things happen to good people.❤️Anyone who knows Ken & Laverne know that they would do anything to help anyone out in a time of need. Unfortunately they have found themselves on the other end of needing help. These high school sweethearts built a life, raised their 3 children and hoped to retire at their home in the bluffs near La Crosse. The past few years have been difficult, with the death of their oldest son and Laverne being diagnosed with dementia. In the middle of the night on August 7th, Ken & Laverne suffered a devastating loss of their home and all possessions in a horrific house fire. Laverne suffers from dementia and Ken, who has been the caretaker along with his sister Ruth, barely made it out of the flames alive. Laverne is wheelchair bound and they were able to get her out, with Kenny sustaining 2nd degree burns. While this is a miracle and we are grateful for their lives being spared, they have lost their home, possessions, cars, camper, boat etc. What is even more tragic about the situation is that none of the loss beyond the vehicle is covered by insurance. This is because with Laverne requiring 24 hour care, including getting up nearly every hour every single night and her breaking her hip this past year, along with traveling from the south to La Crosse after the hip surgery, the home insurance premium for 2019 somehow got missed. They had paid their homeowners insurance for 50 years and of course this year was missed. Anyone who has been a primary caretaker can sympathize with how intense and draining it is. Ken and Laverne are “the shirt off of their backs” type of people who have done so much for so many and would never expect anything in return. Ken always has said, “if I have a dollar you have 50 cents” and you better believe he meant it. Anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing them can attest to this. Please consider even the smallest of contributions to these kind people who have fallen on these hard times. Your donation will be used to purchase medical equipment for Laverne, cleaning and removal services of the site of the fire, and recovery costs. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your consideration, understanding and prayers.
Warmly,
The family of Ken & Laverne
