Hello, My name is Amber Brooks and I am asking for your help on behalf of my mother and step-father, Peggy and Rodger Moore. On 01/20/2024 at 2:43 am Peggy and Rodger Moore lost their home and family pets, Bella, Baby, PJ, Max, Mary Jane, and Scotty to a horrendous and devastating house fire.
Rodger was awake watching TV and Peggy was headed to bed. It was at this point that Rodger saw flames in the kitchen. Rodger quickly realized the fire was coming from a kerosene heater left for the fur babies to keep warm during the cold night. Rodger quickly grabbed the heater from the now burning area and attempted to remove it from the home through the back door. Rodger then realized the fire was following him as the heater left a trail of fuel to follow. Unable to safely remove the heater from the home, Rodger chose to abandon his efforts and make sure Peggy got out of the home safely, choosing their lives over his childhood home. Realizing their beloved family pets were still trapped in the home, Rodger and Peggy began to frantically yell for them, but only one (Peanut) made it out of the house.
Living in an extremely rural area has its tranquilities, but in this case, it proved to be all but a pleasure. It was almost the perfect storm. The area, already semi-remote, was struck by a winter storm the previous night leaving the roads in hazardous conditions. Combined with the distance from the closest volunteer fire department and the fact that no fire hydrants exist in this remote area, it was about 30 minutes before any aid arrived. In all, at least five separate fire departments responded to provide aid but the home was unable to be saved.
Now comes the devastating part. Rodger and Peggy being a retired couple, were without homeowners insurance because they heated their home with an internal wood burner. Their entire life was in this home. Everything from childhood memories, irreplaceable pictures, family heirlooms, and family pets was lost and never to be seen again. It was only by the grace of God they were able to walk out of the home with their lives, wearing only the clothes on their back.
Please help my family to rebuild their lives and replace the things that can be replaced. It is through donations and the generosity of people like you that can allow my family to pick up the pieces and start over.
Thank you for any support you are willing to provide.
