House Destroyed by Typhoon Rai

My family in the Philippines has lost their home due to the severity of Typhoon Rai. We are trying to raise $5,000, the cost to build a new home, as they lost all their worldly possessions. Everyone in my family is safe, but left without a roof over their head. My mom, Fely Hackett-Zybeck, posted this on Facebook the other day explaining the heartfelt need for your kindness and generosity.

 

"Everyone in my family is safe, unfortunately they have no home. This is my childhood home where my grandma raised me for 8 years until America welcomed me . My grandmother has raised many generations in this home & I'm praying we can rebuild it for the future generations. My heart is heavy & my spirit a little bruised for my family. My cousins are going through a lot. They had to endure a funeral a week before and this Typhoon days after. I’m praying & reaching out to all my family & friends please for prayers & donation so this home can be rebuilt to house my cousins and to honor my grandma. May God bless you all!"

UPDATE: We have reached our original goal of $5,000. To give you an idea of how much this means to them, it would take one person working 5 years to make $5,000-not to save. My family has never seen a large amount of money like this and most likely never will again in their lifetime. They will be without power in their village for the next three months, no construction can happen until that is up and running. As contractors are lined up, we will be dispersing money directly to the cost of building the home or homes for the family.
