On September 8th, 2025, Zigzag Hotshots were suppressing the Emigrant Fire on the Willamette National Forest. During these operations, Chris Stash was struck by a tree. His injuries required immediate extraction by helicopter.
As a wildland firefighter on a hotshot crew, he faces arduous physical work, day by day, all summer long. Stash is a Zigzag Hotshot through and through. He has worked on the crew for eight years, always holding himself to the highest standard. In his role as a squad leader, he leads by example and always has a smile on his face. Anyone who has spent five minutes with Stash knows how genuine a person he is and how much he enjoys hunting and the outdoors. He is an individual whose personality shines bright in any situation.
Wildland firefighters heavily depend on overtime in the busy summer months. Unfortunately, without this overtime, it is nearly impossible to make ends meet. The income generated from this effort will go towards covering lost income and to help cover the many expenses he and his family face on his road to recovery.
Stash has spent well over a decade of time and effort protecting life and property. Any donations, big or small, are greatly appreciated.
