Hot Dog! Rebekah Hawker is Making a New EP!

Well Hiya!

If you've found this page you probably already know me, but just in case you don't... my name is Rebekah, and I'm asking for help to fund my new EP!

I'm a country folk singer-songwriter from Barrie, ON, a little city that you drive through on the way to your cottage in Northern Ontario. I like playing guitar, singing and writing songs. I like to do this in front of strangers and they will oftentimes pay me money to do it (some do it out of contractual obligation but most do it out of genuine enjoyment!!)

Lately I've been playing new songs live that incur such questions of "wow, can I find that online?" or "woah, is that on this CD you're selling?" My response to all these questions is sadly, no :( 

BUT we're talking today because I'm looking to make a change.

On January 29th, 2023 I'm heading into the studio to record a new batch of songs I've been workshopping live over the past two years. I'll be recording these with my trusted friend and Producer Will Crann at Catherine North Studios (City & Colour, Whitehorse, Wild Rivers) in Hamilton, ON.

We are bringing together a star studded cast to achieve what will probably, definitely, undoubtedly be an EP that rivals Prince and Barbara Streisand alike, for sure. We're planning to get this done in a week. It's a new process for me to record this way as I'm typically a slow burn in the studio but boy am I excited to try doing this one different.

The songs we'll be recording are very special to me. They are mostly autobiographical and are explorations of grief, of new love, of aging, and of questioning everything you've been doing with your life for the past decade... really just some timeless themes for us complicated humans. These are songs that I've felt resonate with you in live settings and it feels important to bring them further into creation. I'd like for you to finally be able to bring them home with you :)

So What Am I Asking For?

I'm asking for your contribution because here's the reality... recording is expensive! And us independent artists are releasing music in an oversaturated market (100,000 songs uploaded DAILY) so we have to balance our recording budget with an ever increasing and demanding marketing budget. It's the only way we can ensure our music reaches the audience it needs to.

I'm very grateful to have this project partially funded by Ontario Arts Council thanks to their music recording grant but your donations will help me to cover my remaining recording costs as well as other promotional, marketing and manufacturing costs.

Having succesfully completed a crowdfunding campaign like this for my previous EP "Careful Women" I'm confident that with your support I'll be able to create a beautiful collection of songs to share with you.

And I want to bring you along on the journey!

So all contributors will get daily updates in the studio (including clips and videos) from me personally, and I'll even give you an advanced digital copy of the EP ahead of its official release.
