Why Alpha-1?

I'm running for Alpha-1 UK Support Group because this cause is deeply personal to me. My dad and sister are both affected by Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1), a rare genetic disorder that many people have never heard of. It can lead to serious lung disease and liver complications — often going undiagnosed until it’s too late.

My dad's journey with Alpha-1 reached a critical point when he needed a double lung transplant to survive. Watching him go through that — the surgeries, the recovery, and the ongoing management of his health — showed me just how vital awareness, early diagnosis, and support are for families like mine.

There is no cure for Alpha-1, and it remains vastly underfunded and under-recognized. The Alpha-1 UK Support Group offers life-changing support to families like mine and pushes for better testing, treatment, and research.

️ Why Breast Cancer Now?

My running partner is dedicating his half of the run to Breast Cancer Now, because we both know people locally who have faced this devastating disease. Cancer touches so many families, and every step we take is in honour of those who are still fighting.
