Hostel 16 - theatre production

Benjamin is getting ready for his first ever birthday party in a real house. Abigail is dreaming of a college she won’t be able to go to. Sunday is roaming the corridors. Olive is remembering a home she won’t return to. Jennifer is watching static on the television to pass the time. Lizy is singing lullabies to a child who won’t know what freedom is.  Gloria is reminding them that there’s still hope. There’s always hope.

There are 59.9 million displaced people in the world today.

HOSTEL 16 is a theatrical snapshot of the Direct Provision system in Ireland. Set within a fictional Direct Provision centre, the piece examines the emotional and mental effects of the hostel on 11 individual characters who have been forgotten in the system. This project will attempt to bring the subject of Direct Provision to light in an artistic and sensitive way, using a large ensemble of actors. We hope the piece will engage Irish audiences in a subject matter that we feel is extremely important.

In order to make this show the best it can be, we need to raise some money. As well as hosting a number of fundraisers, we are using crowdfunding as one of our primary sources of income and we would be incredibly grateful for any support you are willing to give. Your donations will go towards our set, costume and lighting design, rehearsal space, insurance, promotional costs as well as paying some of our crew for their time.

This is a piece that deals with a challenging subject matter but a story that we feel is important to tell and are incredibly passionate about. We are excited to begin working with our phenomenal team and produce the best piece of theatre we can.

Thank you so much for your support!
