Dear family and friends,
Many of you have asked how you can help out in our war against covid-19 (coronavirus). As you are aware, there are critical shortages in Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for health care workers throughout our nation. PPE includes masks (N95 or surgical), face shields, gowns, and gloves. It can also include CAPRs and PAPRs in certain settings. Unfortunately, we too have inadequate supplies to meet our current needs. As frontline providers, this poses significant danger to our patients, ourselves, and our families.
We appreciate if you are able to donate any PPE you may have to your local hospital. Many of you have already done this- thank you!
Also, thank you to those offering to make fabric (washable/reusable) covers for our masks so that we can reuse the N95 masks , which are the most protective.
Beyond that, several physician groups have decided to take matters in their own hands by purchasing their own PPE, wherever they are able to get it, IF they are able to get it. Our hospitalist group is doing the same.
We created this page for our friends and family who wish to join us in our fight against coronavirus and want to do so through monetary contributions.
Below we share with you what your monetary contributions would support:
1) Purchase of PPE, mainly N95 masks (currently being sold for $2-4/mask) and surgical masks, along with surgical face shields, gowns and gloves.
2) Meals/nourishment for resident physicians who are working long hours and no longer have easy access to food in the hospital while the cafeteria and nearby student union remain closed.
Any surplus supplies resulting from your donations will be distributed to our local colleagues with unmet needs.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support!
Stay safe!
