HOSPITAL BEDS FOR BANGLADESH #BACHARLORAI
With only 4 beds per 10000 people (world bank) and less than 1300 intensive care beds (DGHS ) for a population of 162 million, a desperate crisis situation looms over our healthcare system.
The tragedy: Facilities so full that the patients have to be treated on the floors and hallways. Overcapacity so evident even outside the centres, where patients are being turned away everyday.
Since April 2020 #BacharLorai has taken a needs-based approach in the fight against the coronavirus. Whether it was motivation and PPE sets to our doctors or supplying N95 masks and Oxygen cylinders to our hospitals, we were trying to find effective ways to stand by the core front-line: our healthcare heroes.
The pandemic has forced many of our country’s health facilities to be scary places where citizens are now increasingly afraid to go. #BacharLorai aims to change this status quo. While we distributed supplies across healthcare centres in Bangladesh, we noticed the inherent gap that has always been there, but worse: Inadequate bedding facilities beyond city centres.
#BacharLorai believes every citizen has a right to healthcare, and every centre needs to be equipped to provide it. Inspired by efforts in Italy and India we ask for your support to provide hospital beds on a needs based approach across Bangladesh.

- If you have a hospital or health centre that you would like for us to donate to connect with us at [email redacted] for a needs based assessment
This initiative aims to directly increase treatment capacity in under-served and overcrowded health centres across Bangladesh. With seasonal viruses like dengue adding more to the turmoil, let us please come together as friends or families to donate 1 hospital bed that can help many lives over time.
While Bangladesh continues to react to the shock from COVID-19, our doctors, nurses, hospital cleaners, screeners, and porters across facilities are doing the best they can to contain the crisis. By mobilizing a community-based approach towards tackling COVID-19 we hope to connect those who want to help with those in need.
