Cody, A Walking Miracle

Hello everyone! Some of you may not know the story, so I will try to explain it first. And for those who do know please be patient with me

First, Cody is 21 years old. He is the strongest, most encouraging man anyone knows. He loves God, and cares for everyone more than himself. He loves everyone, and has more faith than most people could even imagine. He deserves total healing and restoration, and he WILL get that and more!

So one year ago, on January 8, 2015, Cody went to the doctor to have some test ran on a few 'bumps ' on his body, particularly on the left side of his neck. The test results came back as non-malignant. So nothing was ever mentioned otherwise. The doctors said not to worry unless these bumps were causing him pain. From the very beginning, at this appointment Cody has claimed his Healing and has believed he is okay, and healed. So everyone began to believe with him and pray that things would be okay and work out according to God's will and timing. A few short months later, the 'bump' on his neck began to rapidly grow in size. This was beginning to cause him pain. From July to September it had doubled in size and was at this point, causing him to lose movement in his neck due to the pressure of this tumor on his muscles and nerves. He had an appointment scheduled for October 15, 2015 to meet with the doctors, when calling to confirm the appointment, the secretary informed him that they scheduled him for surgery that day. No one knew he was even having surgery until they called to confirm the appointment.

So October 15th came, and we all traveled to UAB hospital in Birmingham. During pre-op, the family went back and got to speak to the doctors and the surgeon. This is where we met the best surgeon on the planet, Dr. Greene. Dr. Greene is a Christian and has the best interest of Cody in mind when practicing. He calmly and collectively went over the procedure and risk factors. He said he was confident he could remove this mass from his neck. After surgery, Dr. Greene came to talk to the family and informed them that due to this big of a mass on the neck, he knows he had to cut a nerve in his tongue, he may or may not be able to move his shoulder, and he may or may not be able to talk because of the attachment to nerves so close to his vocal chords. We still applauded him for the successful surgery and really knew God had control of the whole situation. After going to see Cody for the first time, he had about a 7 inch incision on his neck, and he could talk with a scratchy voice, and could move his arm with no difficulty. Praise the Lord! The doctors sent the 6 inch by 15 cm wide tumor to be tested. The results came back on November 4th, that this was in fact, cancer.

He went to multiple doctors for answers, and to find out if this is a genetic or hereditary thing, and it was neither. He also had a PET scan to scan for any other tumors or cancer, and the results came back negative. Cody also had an appointment with a radiologist to get an opinion about radiation. Cody had no problems leading up to his 2 month post op appointment with Dr. Greene. He just looked pale, and had a lack of energy. On January 6th, 2016 he met wit Dr. Greene for the post op appointment. His neck had began to swell on the left side, so they did a CT scan and immediately got the results back. He got the unfortunate news that this cancerous tumor came back in the exact same spot. That dang cancer MUST leave and never return. Everyone was just shocked to hear the news, and they immediately got him in for surgery on January 8th (2 days later.) Cody had the same doctor and surgeon to complete this surgery which we were thankful for, because of the past success. We all began to just give this cancer to God and let him do what he does. So... again, met with the doctor for pre-op went over everything and he said he couldn't really tell the family anything until after surgery because he didn't know what that tumor looked like or was attached to this time around. 7 hours later, we got the call he was out of surgery and was waking up in recovery. Shortly after, the family met with Dr. Greene about the surgery. He said he got everything in the area, and got the mass completely out. He said he removed everything on the left side including: lymph nodes, nerves and muscle to his shoulder, his jugular vein, nerves to his mouth, and nerves to his vocal chords. Said he would need speech therapy, and physical therapy for his shoulder and he lost all mobility above the shoulder. We continued to pray that everything would work out for Cody. When the family could go see him in his room, everyone was just shocked at how good he looks! After he woke up, he moved his shoulder, put his arm straight up, to praise God!, he could talk (even though it is only a whisper), and he can smile! The left side of his lip doesn't allow him to show all his teeth on that side when he smiles , but praise God for healing and having his hand on Cody the whole time!

As far as the road to recovery, it is going to be a long ride but with God's mercy and grace we know it is possible to move forward. As for the future plans, healing time is 4 to 6 weeks with this surgery. Once he has healed to the point of building up his immune system, he has to go through radiation, and chemotherapy. The doctor estimated a one year from now recovery time. But he is a fighter and survivor, and will make it through by God's favor he has on his life.

That is the story, friends, and he and his family need all the prayers, thoughts, and support they can get through this difficult time. Cody deserves the world and he will come out on top. This page by no means was set up in regards for his family requesting to do so, but merely for the reason for those who want to help, or can't be there physically for Cody. This is the next best thing to help. As for what they need, and how much, it is hard to know at this point, but anything helps. I know Cody will appreciate this just as much as their family will. So, if you'd like to donate towards Cody's road to recovery, the money will help go towards expenses such as gas, food, lodging, and medical bills. The family lives in Daphne, AL and all of his treatment will be held at UAB in Birmingham, Alabama. For radiation he has to stay in Birmingham for 6 weeks. As far as the rest of the details they aren't finalized just yet because he still has appointments coming up.  We are working on getting a Facebook page  together to keep up with him and his journey for those who are interested be on the lookout for that.

Thank ya'll in advance for the love and support he will receive during this time that is forming, shaping, and completing his testimony! In Jesus name, he is healed and made whole.
