Hoshi's Third Eye Surgery
Hello everyone,
Hoshi, one of my two beloved Shiba Inus who travelled with us from Washington, DC to come live in Paris in 2013, had to be taken to a veterinary ophthalmologist on 30 June 2017, as he had been squinting and pawing at his right eye. I also noticed the rapid development of a cataract which signalled something to be urgently checked out. The vet had found a benign tumour inside the top of his eye and explained that the sudden appearance of the cataract was caused by the tumour.
In July 2017, the vet did initial laser surgery to excise the tumour along with a second surgery to remove the cataract via phacoemulsification to help him regain vision in the eye.
WIth regular check-ups throughout, the vet noticed that the mass appeared to be growing back. He had to undergo another laser surgery on 20 December 2018 to excise the remainder that he could not get because of the previous cataract.
On 15 February 2019, he had an appointment for a regular checkup, and after an ultrasound, the vet noticed another mass growing inside the bottom of his eye which is now causing eye pressure (glaucoma).
I was given a choice between trying to save the eye or enucleation (eye removal). I want to do everything I can to save his eye, but I told to be prepared that there is a possibility that if this laser surgery fails and the mass comes back again, they may have to remove the eye.
The next laser eye surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, 19 February 2019.
As I will experience a loss of employment in August 2019 and will have to move out of France, I will need all of the help I can get from the community.
The estimated total for the surgery and fees is expected to be around 1500 EUR.
