Hello,I’m Jasmine, and I’m owner of Chicana. I’m coming to our community to help support our amazing back of house staff member Hortencia Hernandez. 

Hortencia is at risk of being displaced out of her home and it would leave her ill husband, 4 children and many loving pets with out a home. 

Her husband has spiraled into worsened health very quickly within the past two months and is gravely ill with advanced colon cancer amongst other things. She has had to step away from working here reluctantly as she knows she needs to have a steady stream of income. 

Unfortunately she doesn’t have a care giver and did step away from Chicana to fully care for her husband and is currently struggling to pay her rent where here and her her husband and 4 children reside along with all her beloved pets.

We would hate to see her situation get worse and get displaced during this time. Paid family leave won’t be able to cover all she owes.She has already been given notice by her landlord and we want to raise enough for at least 2 months of rent until she can get back on her feet.

 She is a great human with a good heart and an amazing worker who has worked miracles for her family after battling cancer herself in the past. Yet we can always count on her to have a good laugh and make Chicana what it is as well. 

We ask any donation big or small and are appreciative of all anyone can contribute in these times.
