Hi everybody :)
We are a couple living in southern Greece. Anyone who cares for horses with love in this country is struggling to survive. Many horses here desperately need rescue. This place is magical and touristic, but the laws and people often don’t pay attention to the needs of these animals.
We both love animals and have spent years rescuing cats and dogs, but we cannot turn away from the horses in our area that urgently need support.
With your help, we can start by rescuing a mare and her 8 month old foal, and then continue by helping an older retired racehorse.
We’ve already rescued one retired racehorse, who has been with us for five years now. It took years for her to trust us. There were challenges, some kicks and moments of disappointment, but now she is healthy, happy, and free. Her story shows us what love, trust and patience can do.
A few days ago, after escaping from their rope, a scared mother horse and her baby ran onto the main road. We were able to bring them to our place and, when they saw our rescued horse, they ran to her. The mother and our horse touched their foreheads together, as if they knew they were safe. That moment moved us deeply and showed us how important it is to give them a chance at a better life. We subsequently found the owner of the horse who had bought the pair at a local festival but soon decided that he couldn’t keep them and he is ready to hand them over to a strange market. So we have a chance to give them a chance. The foal also needs immediate veterinary care so time is of the essence.
Today we had to separate the horses until we can figure out a way to work things out and they were so upset it was heartbreaking.
Until now, we have kept our horse in the fields around our house with a delicate agreement with our neighbours. If we look after two more horses, for sure we will need to give something in return for the rental of the land.
Sadly, many horses in our area are abandoned, overworked, or neglected. Maybe, if we work together, we can give a life back to more animals in need of help.
To make this possible, we urgently need;
• Money to buy fencing materials
• Electric fence equipment
• Food for three horses.
• Veterinary care and medicine.
• Money to fix a shelter.
If we raise less than our goal, we will use the money to make our own horse’s life better and do what we can for the pair. If we raise the full amount, we will take on the other pair horses. If we raise more, we will put the money into helping some of the other many animals in need in our area.
Your help would also give us the mental strength to deal with this challenging situation and continue our mission.
Our goal is to raise £3000, which will cover the initial setup and care for these horses. Any amount helps us move closer to providing a safe and loving environment for them.
We promise to keep all donors updated with photos, stories, and progress. Together, we can make a difference and give these horses the care they deserve.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for considering supporting us.
