On the morning of Sunday, February 9, 2020, record gale force winds tore up the metal roofing on the main barn at Morning Sun Ranch in Watsonville, CA, terrifying the 24 resident horses and ponies. Incredibly, no horses or humans were badly injured. However, in the midst of evacuating the horses and attempting to minimize the damage, ranch owner Gina Kindscher had to rush her husband Mike, a Vietnam War Veteran Marine, to the emergency room for assessment of TIA (transient ischemic attack, or ministroke) symptoms. He’s back home doing fine, but the Kindscher family is under a great deal of stress worrying about how they will cope with both the barn repair and Mike’s condition.
Genae’s brother Austyn and boyfriend Nick have done what they can to safeguard everyone by strapping down the loose metal roofing, and removing debris and fallen trees and branches. Genae, along with family and friends, have relocated the horses into available enclosures and paddocks on the ranch, but several are without shelter from the weather.
We hope that you will find it in your hearts to assist this generous family (see more below about all they do for their community) by donating what you can to help them complete repairs to the barn, provide temporary housing for the horses in the meantime, and defray lost income from the disruption. Insurance will cover some of the costs, but will not be nearly enough to complete all the repairs necessary to ensure that the horses and their caretakers are able to safely return to their normal jobs and routines.
Morning Sun Ranch has been a haven for horses for over 30 years. As dedicated Horsemanship trainers, Gina and her daughter Genae have helped horses few people think can overcome behavioral issues that have typically been caused by physical issues, or uninformed handlers. Exceptionally patient coaches, Gina and Genae have helped many riders address anxiety issues, and have taught hundreds of children, teens and adults learn to ride and care for horses. And those who board at Morning Sun Ranch know that under the watchful eyes of Gina Kindscher and her family, their horses needs always come first.
Gina volunteers a great deal of time helping people understand and manage equine muscle diseases through the Facebook group she founded — “Managing PSSM, RER and other muscle disease ." As a certified Equine CranioSacral Therapist, Genae brings an additional level of physical and emotional support to the horses with which she works.
The entire Kindscher family has always done a great deal of service for their community: Gina and Genae regularly work with their church group to raise funds for a local food bank to help feed the hungry and homeless in the area; Austyn is always available to clear trails and lend a hand when rural neighbors need help; and Mike works with several ministries and schools teaching students, veterans, and recovering substance abusers how to build and grow food in hydroponic systems he has developed.
Please help the Kindschers in their time of need.
Thank you and God bless.
