The Hornburg's were wrapping up a normal Tuesday evening when they discovered their house was on fire. Everyone was able to get out safely including the dogs and the cat. While they do have insurance, there are still a lot of out-of-pocket expenses they are incurring for their family of six. We have started this fund to help them in this time of need just before Christmas. No donation is too small.
Angela's story ----------------------------------------------------------------------
We thought 2022 had been a tough year for various reasons, but we had no idea what it still had in store. Rick and I had time blocked today to finish planning for family and business in 2023. Planning looks different now.
We got home on Tuesday evening after watching Mason’s basketball game and eating dinner to start our bedtime routine. I was prepping Ike and Lily for showers when we smelled smoke. Rick went to investigate. He came running back screaming to get out of the house. I grabbed the littles and flew out the front door. I went to the boys’ windows and banged on their windows while screaming at them to get out of the house. Thankfully, we all got out. The dogs got out and we believe Jet did too but that he’s scared and is somewhere around hiding.
It’s been very overwhelming and surreal. If you’ve reached out and haven’t heard back, I love you. Thank you. I am in a state of shock and working to figure it all out so I haven’t been able to respond to everyone yet. We are so incredibly grateful to our neighbors, community, friends, family and the kids’ schools for all of their support and for going above and beyond to help our kids create some normalcy in an otherwise chaotic and traumatic time. Everything is replaceable and at the same time, our worlds are currently upside down (which we will gladly take for safety).
We feel so blessed for our safety and for everyone in our lives who have helped tirelessly in the past 36 hours to help us. Mason said, “I had no idea people were so kind and so nice until now.” I did know but I have shed some real alligator tears over the generosity of time, resources, donations and effort of those around us to help. There just aren’t words for times like these except thank you, thank you, thank you.
