Horn Teacher's House Flooded...Twice

Donation protected
Life often throws us unexpected problems that we have to deal with, but when the problems don't seem to stop coming you need help.

Our Auntie Erin moved to San Antonio last year to start a new job as an Assistant Band Director and a new life.  She is an amazing teacher who gives her students her full attention no matter what else may be going on in her life.  Because of her dedication, tireless work, and care, her students excel at competitions and in life.

Erin had worked long and hard to save up for a house and found what she thought to be the perfect place to start her new life.  Unfortunately, things aren't always what they seem.  The house turned out to have one problem after another.

Caused by a poorly constructed shower, the first flood caused thousands of dollars in damage and five months of reconstruction to five damaged rooms.  The construction created such an unhealthy environment that her sweet cat, Binky, died from acute renal failure.  It was a devastating blow after an already difficult situation.

The second flood should have never happened because Erin had French drains installed to protect her house.  However, she was mortified to come home after a stormy day and find her floors covered in water and mud.  How could this have happened?  Apparently, (and according to the civil engineer she hired) the construction company installed an inefficient and completely ineffective drainage system. Erin was counting on this system to protect her home from flooding.  Insurance does not cover flood damage and the company refused to allow their insurance to cover the costs.  Mold began growing quickly and Erin's house was once again in an unhealthy situation.  Erin did what she could to try to make it livable, but she was left with months of repairs and the lack of funds to fix her home properly.  The only option was to stain the concrete slab.  This worked out to be a disaster as well, causing another $6000 in extra work to fix the slab and re-stain it again.

Sleeping on friends' couches, hotels, enlisting help to care for her animals, and dealing with contractors has consumed all of the time Erin has away from work.  She has not been able to unpack since she’s  moved into her new home over a year ago and cannot afford to make all of the repairs necessary to ensure her house won't flood again.  My Auntie works so to make other people happy and to overcome so many past hardships and would not ask for money but she needs our help.  After all she’s been through all she wants is a safe and healthy home.

Please donate and share so my Auntie Erin can fix her home and won't have to live in fear of it flooding yet again.

Thank you!  Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
