It is with unbearable sadness that we are sharing the news of Horace Grant's sorrowful passing on September 12th, 2023.

To know Horace was to love him. His smile was infectious. He was truly one of a kind. If you had the pleasure of meeting Horace, or crossing paths with him on his time here with us, I’m certain he’s left an indelible mark on your life.

As he has mine.

He was charming like that…charismatic, funny, intelligent, and unassuming. He’d make you feel like you’d known him for years. He had a way of showing you the best parts of yourself, skills you didn’t know you possessed, courage you didn’t know you had.

And the wit, honey! The wit was unmatched. He could hold an intelligent conversation with anyone about anything. He was cultured and classy. He slacked with nothing. If you knew Horace, you know all of this to be true. Whether you knew him in real life, or virtually through his unmistakable online presence, he was a force.
Horace was a loving Father, a loyal brother, doting grandfather, favorite cousin, respected colleague, and the very best friend any of us could ever ask for. We’re all devastated by his loss; he will be dearly missed.

Horace was 77 and lived in San Diego at the time of his passing. He grew up in Kingston, Jamaica and migrated to California in September 1993 at the age of 47. He attended and graduated from Maverley All Age junior high and high school. He enjoyed a successful career in painting and part-time singing in Jamaica. When he migrated to California, he worked as a janitor in a nursing home for 8 years, and still also kept singing and painting. The thing he enjoyed the most was his singing though; it was his passion. He had really hoped to make it big one day, but nevertheless he was always very proud of his music. He really had an affinity for engaging people through it.

On behalf of Horace's family, we are humbly collecting funds to help pay for funeral and burial expenses. As one can imagine, the onset of these unexpected costs are both financially and emotionally fatiguing during a time meant for the mourning and celebration of his life.

We simply ask those kind and gracious enough to donate, that you give what you can, and spread the word if you're able to.

Please keep his loved ones lifted in prayer.

-Mary , Horace's devoted daughter
