Thank you for taking the time to read our story. I have started this GoFundMe campaign for my sister Sandi. This past Christmas while being treated for a life-threatening bleeding ulcer, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer which has already metastasized to her liver and lungs. She is 42 years old.
Surgery and radiation are not an option, and chemotherapy is the only treatment possible. Her Oncology team planned to begin the most aggressive chemo treatment available more than a month ago. But in the past several weeks, she has been hospitalized twice, for more than a week at a time, for serious complications due to the rapid growth of the tumor/cancer, and has had to endure numerous surgeries and procedures. This has unfortunately weakened her to such a degree that the doctors now can only treat her with the mildest form of chemotherapy, the first session only able to begin one week ago. Her strength and health have deteriorated quickly. All of these things have significantly reduced her time left with us.
As you can imagine, the hospital bills are piling up. Even with good health insurance, the costs of her medical care and medications are extensive. We, her very small family, are providing for her all of the care, comfort, and necessities of life that we are able to . She doesn't ask for much, but we are having trouble providing the things that she needs - much less the things that she would be so grateful to have to make her last months more comfortable. Items such a special memory foam mattress pad to make all the time she must spend in bed more tolerable, proper food for her very specialized diet, message therapy to ease the pain of her poor aching body, wheelchair, adjustable or hospital bed, many many medications, and of course the hugely expensive cost of doctors and healthcare.
Then there are the things we'd love to do for her if we could. For example: one last trip to Disney World (in a wheelchair of course), a trip to Myrtle Beach to see our younger sister graduate from college in May, a Spa Day to make her feel pretty again, see a ballet, last family portraits, etc.. But we can't provide these things because due to a very unfortunate, ill-timed turn of events, the main financial provider of the family was laid off just last week because of downsizing in the company he worked for. This makes it a challenge to even pay the mortgage, utility bills, food, and normal expenses of life. The rest of the family includes our mother who works 6 to 7 days a week (but in seasonal job which hasn't yet started back up for this year), a younger sister still in college, and myself- who works two jobs. We're doing the best that we can and "getting by", but your help would be so very appreciated. So that we can afford the extra things that would make Sandi more comfortable in her final months. We are very thankful for any amount you can afford, and if you can't donate monetarily, we are grateful for your prayers. And if you are comfortable sharing this campaign with those in your own circles, we will appreciate it very much.
Please let me know if you have questions, or if you would like any additional information.
I will also be sending updates through this page, to let you know how your generous donations are being used.
Thank you so very much and God Bless.
