Alicia's New Liver

Donation protected
Update: It's been just over a year. Alicia has been doing so well with her new liver! We can't thank you enough for all the help you gave to get us there. Alicia just left to go to Mayo yesterday and I just found out how much it costs them to go on these trips every few months... roughly $1,000.  That's definitely a strain for anyone, but especially now as prices of everything are going up.  For a car rental and gas alone it's over $700.  If you all could work your magic again and contribute a few dollars and share our GoFundMe we would be very appreciative. Thank you all for your help in saving my best friend's life.  <3

We have tried to avoid this, but we need your help now. Alicia has been fighting against liver failure for a while now. She needs to be on a liver transplant list but so far hasn't been able to get on one for any place somewhat local. The last hope for a liver lies at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. We need your help to get there.

Alicia was diagnosed with Stage IV hepatocellular carcinoma in 2018 after having a wedge removed from her liver. The largest tumor was now gone, but dozens of other ones dotted her liver. The next step was radiation by use of TheraSpheres; glass irradiated beads injected into her liver.

Radiation was a success! The tumors were gone! But the radiation also basically killed her liver. We have held out hope her liver would recover, but it hasn't. With the extremely low liver function, there has been a strain on her kidneys. She is swelling and has started getting fluid on her lungs and is currently on oxygen.

Alicia now spends roughly half of her life in various hospitals. Each one starts with such promise but ultimately ends up just being able to treat her symptoms. The thing she needs is a new liver. Unfortunately, as she is such a difficult case none of these hospitals can get her on the list.

Which brings us here. She is currently at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN. Once they release her mother is going to take her to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN where they take cases like hers.

If they get on the list they could be there for a while. That's where you come in. Any donations you make will help them to do this. Her mother is on an FMLA leave and Alicia is on disability. They don't have the funds to do this, but this is Alicia's only hope for life. Please give whatever you can.

We appreciate all of your help.
