Hope's Story: Support the Martin's with Medical Expenses

Hello! My name is Genevieve Mercier and I'm setting up this GoFundMe for my dear friend, Hope Martin. Let me tell you a little about who Hope is.

She's full of life; loves unconditionally; serves others with a joyful heart; prays for people relentlessly; gives everything she sets her mind to her all; lives life in the moment; knows how to have fun; celebrates with those who are happy, and cries with those who are struggling; stops everything to listen; will speak truth, even if it's hard; doesn't offer advice to just make you feel good, but what is actually good for you; she's a devoted wife and a loving mother to 2 beautiful babies who are 2 years old and 5 months old. I was so honored to have her stand beside me at my wedding, and I'm so blessed to call her my friend and sister!

Hope was recently diagnosed with cancer. Her specific diagnosis is adenocarcinoma, metastatic lung cancer and it is stage 4. They believe it started in or on her right lung, which caused the fluid to buildup and then spread to her lymph nodes, and the lining of her bowels.

As far as a future timeline, they can't really say. There are 5 or 6 medications they can try. It all depends on how well her body handles the first medication. Some people have had it help delay disease progression for a year and a half to two years or more. Ideally, each medication would give her a little more time, but they can't guarantee anything. Everyone responds differently and has different side effects. If her body responds well, she could have a few to 10 years or it could be a lot shorter than that.

The doctors are very optimistic that she will do well with the medication, but she asked specifically about prognosis and they wouldn't say.

In response to how she's doing emotionally she has said, "In some ways, I don't think it has fully sunk in. I am not afraid to die and I feel an incredible amount of peace. At the same time I am incredibly sad, especially when I think of my husband and babies and what this means for them. But as I prepared myself for the worst possible news from the doctors, it felt like an amazing gift to learn that this medication was an option. I left that appointment with hope and joy that I have a chance to potentially have years instead of months. I'll forever be processing and working through the hard, but also doing my best to live in the moment, enjoying the time I do have."

Thank you in advance for your prayers on Hope's behalf and for your generosity in however the Lord may lead you. These funds will be used to assist Hope and Brian with medical bills, as well as needs that may come up to help Hope cope with her prognosis.
