Hello, I’m Malik from Gaza, from the Bani Suhaila area in Khan Younis. I am 17 years old.

I lived through the war in Gaza under the worst conditions of killing, starvation, and displacement. My family and I were displaced at the beginning of the war after the Israeli army attacked our area, and we went to Rafah and lived there for about 4 months in a tent under very difficult circumstances, with extreme cold and difficulty obtaining food and water.

When the Israeli army withdrew, we found that they had burned our home and destroyed large parts of it. After that, we went to my grandmother's house and lived with her in the basement. Even though the army had also burned the basement, we cleaned it at the time and lived in it. The war continued, and the Israeli army issued evacuation orders for our area more than 7 times.

The next time we were displaced, we went to the Mawasi area of Khan Younis and set up a tent there. In this last displacement, the situation was very bad, and the Israelis attacked the area with great force. We were displaced under bombardment and the sound of gunfire. This painful displacement lasted for 5 months, and we lived in a tent in Mawasi Khan Younis.

During this displacement, we lived through famine, and unfortunately, I had to go to the dangerous “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation" distribution centers in the southern Gaza Strip. I survived death many times. I saw how innocent people and children who went to get food were shot. On one occasion, there was a young man next to me who suddenly was shot in the head. This was the most painful situation I have ever experienced, as I saw how the bullet entered his head and how the blood came out in a terrible and painful way.

I also went to the truck area in Moraj, where I saw an injured person at that time and took him to the hospital. I also saw many injuries and victims due to shooting by the Israeli army. Life was very difficult at that time, and the famine was at its peak. We lost a lot of weight. Those days passed, and I thank God that my family and I are still alive.

During the beginning of October, news began to spread about a ceasefire approaching in Gaza. Soon after that, a ceasefire agreement was announced, along with the withdrawal of the Israeli army and the handover of hostages. Now, after this insane war has stopped and after two years of pain and sorrow, Gaza is trying to return to life. I will complete my studies, knowing that I am now in the final stage of school, which is the most difficult, and after that, I will travel and continue my education at a university outside the Gaza Strip.

A few days after the agreement, I went to Bani Suhaila, and I was shocked that my grandmother's house was destroyed. The basement we lived in was completely destroyed and all our belongings were destroyed and gone. It became uninhabitable and will be completely demolished.

Now we are living in a tent and cannot return because there is no shelter. But there is one hope for obtaining shelter, which is repairing our old house and buying many things for it so we can live in it.

I ask you from the bottom of my heart to help me so that my family can have shelter. After that, I will finish my studies in Gaza and leave. I am the one responsible for my family, and I cannot travel and leave them without them having shelter and a home, especially since rebuilding Gaza will require a lot of time, and life in a tent is very difficult, cold, and painful.

Ho vissuto la guerra a Gaza nelle condizioni peggiori immaginabili: tra uccisioni, fame e sfollamento forzato. La guerra è continuata e l'esercito israeliano ha emesso ordini di evacuazione per la nostra zona più di 7 volte.

La volta successiva che siamo stati costretti a scappare, siamo andati nella zona di Mawasi a Khan Younis e abbiamo piantato una tenda lì. In quest'ultimo sfollamento, la situazione era terribile e gli israeliani hanno attaccato la zona con grande forza. Siamo fuggiti sotto i bombardamenti e il crepitio degli spari. Questo doloroso sfollamento è durato 5 mesi, e abbiamo vissuto in una tenda a Mawasi Khan Younis.

Durante questo periodo abbiamo vissuto una carestia e, purtroppo, io ho dovuto recarmi ai pericolosi centri di distribuzione della "Gaza Humanitarian Foundation" nel sud della Striscia di Gaza. Sono scampato alla morte molte volte. Ho visto con i miei occhi come persone innocenti e bambini che andavano a prendere del cibo venissero colpiti dai proiettili. In un'occasione, c'era un giovane vicino a me a cui all'improvviso hanno sparato alla testa. Questa è stata la situazione più dolorosa che io abbia mai vissuto: ho visto il proiettile entrargli in testa e il sangue uscire in un modo terribile e straziante.

Sono anche andato nella zona dei camion ad Al-Mawasi, dove in quell'occasione ho visto un ferito e l'ho portato in ospedale. Siamo dimagriti moltissimo. Quei giorni sono passati, e ringrazio Dio che la mia famiglia e io siamo ancora vivi.

All'inizio di ottobre, hanno iniziato a circolare voci su un possibile cessate il fuoco a Gaza. Poco dopo, è stato annunciato un accordo per la tregua, insieme al ritiro dell'esercito israeliano e alla consegna degli ostaggi. Ora, dopo che questa guerra folle si è fermata e dopo due anni di dolore e sofferenza, Gaza sta cercando di tornare alla vita. Io completerò i miei studi, sapendo di essere nell'ultimo anno di scuola, il più difficile, e dopo quello, vorrei viaggiare e continuare la mia educazione in un'università fuori dalla Striscia di Gaza.

Qualche giorno dopo l'accordo, sono tornato a Bani Suhaila e sono rimasto sconvolto nel vedere che la casa di mia nonna era distrutta. La cantina in cui vivevamo era completamente rasa al suolo e tutte le nostre cose erano distrutte e perdute. È diventata inabitabile e verrà completamente demolita.

Ora viviamo in una tenda e non possiamo tornare perché non abbiamo un riparo. Ma c'è un'unica speranza per ottenerne uno: riparare la nostra vecchia casa e comprare tutto il necessario per poterci vivere.

Vi chiedo dal profondo del cuore di aiutarmi affinché la mia famiglia possa avere un riparo. Dopodiché, finirò i miei studi a Gaza e me ne andrò.
