About 6 months ago I came across a lump under my right arm, at that time I went to my primary care physician to get it looked at. An ultrasound was ordered to determine what it was, which came back at that point as a complex cyst and the recommendation was to follow up in 6 months. I thought nothing of it and believed it was just a cyst and I was going to move on with my normal life. Fast forward 6 months, another ultrasound was done and the “cyst” grew. At that point a biopsy was ordered to find out what we were dealing with.
On May 8th I received the results of the biopsy, the results were hard to believe and heartbreaking, the diagnosis came back as Non- Hodgkins Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma, cancer of the lymph node. That’s when my world changed. I was then referred to an oncologist who ordered a PET scan which confirmed the diagnosis and it also showed it has spread to a few lymph nodes in my chest, which are still small at this point.
This is curable and treatable with chemotherapy and radiation. However, due to the chemotherapy and radiation, there is a strong chance I will not be able to work during the treatments and even though I do have insurance it will not cover the cost of everything. I've started this GoFundMe in hopes to help with all of the medical expenses I'm about to incur.
Never in my life would I have thought I would have to deal with something like this. Instead of planning a summer filled with camping trips and nature adventures, it will be filled with doctors appointments and treatments. It is still hard for me to grasp the concept that this is what I have. This is going to be the toughest journey of my life, but I’m grateful to have the support of my amazing wife and my supportive family to get me through it. I would love to say “yes, we can do this on our own,” but sometimes you need to ask for the help of others, no matter how much your pride can get in the way. And that is what I am asking for today, positive thoughts, prayers, and any sort of monetary donation that you can give would be of so much help. And I would be so full of gratitude and thankfulness for any amount of generosity. I promise you I will come out of this stronger than ever. #FightforHope
