We are fundraising to support a dear friend and their family during an incredibly difficult and unexpected time.

While visiting the UK, our friend suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. They required immediate resuscitation and received nine life-saving shocks, followed by emergency admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Thanks to the swift actions of the medical team, their life was saved — something we are profoundly grateful for.

However, as a visitor to the UK, they are not entitled to free NHS care. The family was informed that ICU treatment costs over £2,000 per day, and the initial estimate for five days in ICU, including specialist cardiology care, was just under £20,000.

Thankfully, our friend is now making a good recovery and has been transferred to the cardiology ward. They will require a defibrillator as part of their ongoing treatment and recovery. While this is encouraging news, the financial burden continues to grow.

You can imagine the shock and distress the family is facing — coping with the trauma of nearly losing a loved one, while also dealing with overwhelming medical costs in a foreign country.

We have set up this fundraiser to help ease the financial pressure on the family, so they can focus on what truly matters: recovery, healing, and being together during this critical time.
