HOPE to feel the freedom of walking again
Donation protected
On June 2, 2018 our mother was hit by a drunk driver and as a result was found unconcious and had bruises covering her body, a large cut on her forehead requiring 24 stitches, bleeding under her skull in several locations, and a broken tibia, fibula, and ankle with the bones protruding through her skin. Eight weeks after her fist surgery she was able to walk on her leg with no pain and high hopes of a full recovery. After her next follow up X-ray, we were told that she needed another surgery due to the hardware failing. The doctors could not believe she wasn’t in excruciating pain, showing just how strong our mother really is. During the second procedure her tibia was broken in a new place while placing the new hardware, so immediately after we were made aware of the third surgery that was to follow. She finally started the process all over after her third surgery in November 2018. Since November 2018, she has had five infections requiring antibiotics (which we have since found were prescribed at the wrong doses). On November 3, 2019, one year after her last surgery she got the worst infection she’s had yet. After 48 hours of yet another wrongly dosed prescription and no improvement she went the ER where she was told that her bones were in fact not healed, she had extremely bad cellulitis (a skin infection), and there was a pretty high chance that the infection had made its way to her bone. After 14 days in the hospital, many conflicting doctor opinions, many wrongly performed tests with “inaccurate results,” several severe complications, and a fourth surgery where the hardware was removed, our mother is now resting at home. She is wheelchair bound again as her bones try to fully heal without the hardware, she will be on daily antibiotics for many months to come, and will again have weekly doctor’s visits and daily medical care.
Unfortunately, the underage drunk driver received very minimal consequences and our mother received almost no compensation for the amount of medical care she has needed, much less the lifelong changes and complications she will face. We are hoping to receive many prayers and any donations, only if you are able, that will help us with her medical bills and allow us to get her the help she needs to hopefully have the freedom of walking again one day. Our mother was born in raised in Naples, Florida where she is well known by many. She is the owner of a local business which she has been unable to fully run during the last year. With the help of our grandparents and uncle we have been able to keep the company running as our mother is a single parent helping to support a daughter in PA school and a daughter in undergrad both in Tallahassee, a son who is starting his career after graduating from FSU, and a daughter who is a senior in high school. Our mother has always put our needs and wants before her own and we are hoping to alleviate some of this burden from her. On May 15, 2019 our father passed away completely unexpectedly. As our family has had a very difficult two years, this makes it even more important for us children to try to help our mother as much as we can to keep her around for a long and healthy life to come. All prayers and donations are greatly appreciated.
