As a group of volunteers we are currently teaching at Hope School, providing free English lessons to kids and young adults in the local area of rural Cambodia.

The Hope School aims to better the lives for the children in Bakod village. Not only does it provide free English lessons to the children, it also runs a food bank that supports the local families in need. As volunteers each week we go to deliver food packages to the families. This is a life line for so many families because some are not able to travel or even leave their house.

The Hope Agency has been providing to many families for over 10 years, the longest member being a lady called Nora. She was left to sleep under plastic sheets when her sons stole and sold her land after being paralysed as a result of a stroke. Nora’s infectious smile shows her gratitude and how much the weekly visits mean to her. A new house was recently built in order to give her more space and comfort. On a visit she told us that now she has the house and our support, she no longer wants to die.

After spending time teaching at Hope School, we have been able to see how dedicated the kids are to learn English, even after a full day at Khmer school. The children travel up to 7km each way just for our 1 hour lessons, which shows how much they value this opportunity. Learning English can better their future by opening up their job pathway because English is such a powerful skill to have.

All donations will be directly received by Hope School and used to buy pens, paper and learning recourses. As well as food packages for the local families. Each food package costs $45, which feeds 2-3 people for a month. Therefore any donation would go a long way.
