Dear friends, family, and kind souls,
Yesterday began with joy at the Pendleton Fire Station’s “Public Safety Day”. Beau, engrossed in his ever-growing collection of firetruck toys, was elated, anticipating his firetruck-themed birthday in October. But by nightfall, our world shifted. Emily’s water broke, leading to another significant loss of amniotic fluid. As we rushed to Community North, the daunting prospect of early labor loomed.
Now, at 27+ weeks into her pregnancy with our twins, Pax and Bennett, Emily’s journey has continued to be a roller coaster. After battling a multitude of complications: at 16 weeks, she underwent an amniocentesis, followed by a concerning loss of amniotic fluid that ultimately restricted her from work. Shadows of genetic and cardiac concerns for Bennett emerged from the beginning, only to dissipate later. The pressing goal now is to prevent labor until the 34-week mark, meaning Emily may remain confined to a hospital room for up to 7 weeks. An anticipated NICU stay for Pax and Bennett post-delivery is also expected.
With Beau’s second birthday on the horizon, we daydream about the diverse experiences we want to share with our sons. From the discipline of wrestling to the thrill of soccer and the joys of swimming, we aim to instill not just skills, but cherished family memories.
Amidst the whirlwind, we’re grappling with the realization that many of our preparation goals for welcoming the twins aren’t yet achieved. Our home, brimming with love, still awaits the finishing touches to welcome two more lives.
Our support system has been steadfast. The Lord above has worked miracles. Lori, Emily’s mother, stands as a beacon, particularly for Beau. In times of need, Emily’s father has stepped in, currently assisting us in finding a larger vehicle. Both my parents have been pillars of support throughout this challenging journey. Our chosen friends family and extended family continue to shower us with thoughts, prayers, and warm wishes.
As Emergency Room nurses, we’re trained caregivers. Yet now, we find ourselves on the receiving end, juggling medical and financial challenges. Our baby registry, detailing some of our immediate needs, can be accessed here: https://www.babylist.com/list/yjvkjayux?fbclid=IwAR33sgRZtSY45GMCAGZCw6TCPQD7UJbzts-KHszcS2LbEQ2eZ_6QnabKSFQ_aem_AckqJzFboBL58AbCxal-djLftTHR9AoZ48v-CDn-oOBPe7Ks7OdEKDLoFIl2gtB_8DQ&mibextid=Zxz2cZ
Every gesture, whether a donation, prayer, or a kind word of encouragement, means the world to us.
Emily’s position provides our insurance, presenting another hurdle to navigate. Your support is invaluable. Your acts of kindness weave into our family narrative, a testament to community spirit and boundless compassion.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Devan & Emily Barnard
