Josh is my friend and coworker’s husband, and his journey is one of resilience and hope. In June of 2013, while finishing his day at Atlanta Gas Light, Josh suddenly felt a tingling in his legs and lost the ability to move them. The sensation returned briefly, allowing him to walk to his truck, but then it happened again… this time, the movement didn’t come back. Emergency services rushed him to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where doctors discovered a blood clot pressing on his spinal cord. After emergency spinal surgery and a week in the ICU, Josh began his recovery at the Shepard Spinal Center, spending four months learning to adapt to a new way of life.

Despite the challenges, Josh’s spirit never wavered. In April 2014, he married his best friend Kelly, and together they built a family, welcoming their sons Lincoln in 2020 and Weston in 2024. Josh’s injury left him paralyzed from the chest down, but he still has full use of his arms and hands, and some sensation in his lower body. Now, for the first time in years, there is real hope: a medical procedure could help Josh regain movement and possibly walk again.
