It's hard to put into words all my heart needs to convey as I share with you this journey that's taken place since my brothers health struggles began. If you or someone you love has ever struggled with an illness specialist can't seem to define or provide answers for you know well already the brutal battle for daily life is hard to define. My brother is a warrior for life who isn't willing to give up and with the support of our highly connected family we have forged through one day at a time our faith in the God Who loves us. Here we are needing our community to continue this fight. I don't see this as a weakness to need one another I see it as a place to experience compounding love and hope.
His health started a slow spiral 10 years ago after a few rounds of Fluoroquinolone antibiotics taken for pneumonia that finally became a true crisis last year. One specialist after another coming up with no answers left Caleb and our family researching everything we could and trying to connect the dots. We prayed and hoped for a simply fix for his painful and nutrient intake limiting symptoms the doctors tried running every test along the way. The compounding elements at play that we have discovered along the way are SIBO likely caused by the fluoride poisoning and high cadmium levels (heavy metal toxicity that's harbors the SIBO bacteria).
There is much more than can be shared I am hopeful Caleb himself will share maybe even blog a bit about what he has discovered and learned with his doctors and specialist. We promise to share everything we can that might help prevent or help others with similar health struggles.
I want to give you an idea of what your funding here in terms of what he needs for therapies and supplements. The key issue being most aren't prescriptions drugs or covered by insurance. Many are instead focused on helping his body detox of the cadmium, kill off the SIBO bacterias, and of course nurture his body back to health. Although he is frighteningly thin he is gaining strength slowly. The road won't be a freeway, healing our body never is, but it's clear in its direction finally and we have hope and our next steps clearly defined.
His supplemental needs and IV's will be very costly every month. Hyperbaric chamber treatments. Oxygen thereapy and required equipment. Some of his doctors are out of network providers his insurance doesn't cover so those cost are also adding up quickly. Our family has been collectively helping make things work as Caleb has been unable to drive since last summer. It takes most of his good hours and energy every day just to get his smoothie and supplemental therapies done. It's hard to imagine if you have known him at any point in his life prior to this as he was a force of nature. As a child if he put his mind to it he would accomplish it, as a teen it was evident on the football field, as a young man working hard to earn a living and create a good life, now as a father and husband who refuses to give up on his fight to heal and live life with the woman he loves and his adored children.
One last note we appreciate every prayer, share, and word of encouragement. If you know Caleb and would like to spend time with him as his sister I encourage you to reach out and give him a call or better yet go for a visit. He LOVES time with friends but he is trapped in a bit of a prison unable to travel much if at all apart from doctors appointments. He is currently living with my brother Dan's family and they welcome friends who want to come say hi in person.
