Devan Nave Westerfield and Nathan Westerfield are facing an incredibly challenging time, and their community is rallying to support them. Early Friday morning, Devan experienced multiple seizures, which led doctors to discover a brain bleed. She was quickly transported to St. John’s in Springfield, where it was found she had suffered a brain aneurysm. That same evening, Devan underwent emergency brain surgery. The following morning brought more difficult news—a mini stroke had left her with loss of movement in her left arm and leg. Thankfully, her medical team is optimistic that with intensive physical therapy, Devan will make a full recovery.
Despite this hope, the road ahead is long. Devan is expected to spend at least three weeks in the ICU, followed by a transfer to an in-hospital rehabilitation center for around-the-clock care. The closest rehab facility is likely in Urbana, far from their home in Findlay, which will make travel and family logistics even more challenging. Nathan is doing everything he can to support Devan and their child, Kayde, but the costs and stress are mounting.
This GoFundMe is set up to help with medical bills, travel expenses for Nathan as he visits Devan and manages work, and childcare for Kayde during Devan’s recovery. The family is deeply grateful for the love and support they’ve received so far. If you’re able, please consider donating or sharing Devan’s story to help ease the burden. If a donation isn’t possible, your prayers and well wishes mean the world to them. Thank you for being part of their village during this unpredictable time.
