Thomas is now 17 yrs old and continues to soldier on overcoming many obstacles in his life. In addition to typical adolescent changes (voice, facial hair, acne!); his most challenging is a growth spurt and the development of muscle – making movement more challenging. Despite that, Thomas continues his daily therapy and exercise and has acquired some necessary equipment (including back/knee braces for us!).
Thomas also continues to be home schooled with the help of skilled supports unattainable in school; this was particularly evident during the pandemic. Instructors come to his home and, as necessary, by virtual learning. Thomas continues speech and ABA therapy and travels downtown twice a week to attend movement classes with a 2:1 ratio of support. Much of his day is spent achieving what we all take for granted, getting from A-B in his walker to attend to his personal needs, eat his meals and come/go. Functional independence continues to be a high priority.
While day to day physical support is critical and necessary, so are the additional opportunities afforded to him through private support. The generosity, kindness and encouragement extended by friends and family who have, and continue to support Thomas in his journey of hope is so much appreciated and has made a huge difference in his life.
In light of the pandemic and its many consequences, this Go Fund Me campaign is being set up by the Hope for Thomas BBQ organizers (Brian, Derek, Greg and Tim) to sustain Thomas' supports and a outdoor BBQ will he held at Derek's place on October 2nd.
On behalf of Thomas, we want to extend our deepest gratitude for this extremely kind gesture and to all who continue to extend their help and generosity.
Thank you for creating brighter and lighter days for Thomas, he truly appreciates all the love and support and we feel very blessed
Rob and Linda.
