HOPE FOR THE HILLS – A Project Rooted in Love, Not Charity
This fundraiser comes from a place of deep connection — not charity.
Our village, tucked away in the hills of Northeast India, is home to around 77 families. It’s where I come from. It’s where my roots are. Like many small villages, it survives on hard work, community spirit, and simplicity. Most people work in the fields or travel to nearby towns as labourers. Life isn’t easy, but people manage with what they have.
THE CHALLENGES WE FACE — and What We Hope to Change
Our village has no school. Children walk long distances to study, or they miss out entirely. Most families can’t afford the cost of sending their kids to schools in other villages — not the travel, not the uniforms, not the fees. Education remains out of reach for too many.
We also have no access to basic health care. When someone falls ill, they often wait, travel far, or go without care entirely. Some don’t make it in time .
Access to clean water is also a daily challenge . The village gets its water from natural mountain spring, but due to lack of resources , the pipes are often of poor quality and frequently burst -especially during the rainy season. Heavy rains often lead to flooding , leaving the village without access to clean water for days and even weeks .
So, in addition to building the school, we’ve taken steps to installing a more stable water line to replace the old, broken one- and we plan to build water tank to support this system.
By constructing a proper water tank , we can store clean water during dry periods and rainy season alike - ensuring a more reliable , safe water supply for the entire village .
WHAT WE’RE HOPING TO BUILD TOGETHER
• Build a concrete school, where children can learn close to home
• Support for at least two long-term teachers so they can stay long-term
• Provide furnitures , books, uniforms, and basic school supplies
• Installed a more reliable water line with strong iron pipes and storage tank for safe, clean water
• Set up a small health post with essentials like a thermometer, BP machine, and first-aid supplies
A PERSONAL PROJECT, NOT AN ORGANISATION
This initiative isn’t run by an NGO or government agency . It’s a deeply personal effort — led by myself and my brother. Who were fortunate enough to live and work elsewhere, and now we want to give back in a meaningful, respectful and lasting way -from the heart.
We’re contributing what we can, but despite our best efforts, we haven’t been able to start building due to lack of funds.
OUR STORY
Two years ago, my brother began on working on plans for the school- but those plans were put on hold when his wife was diagnosed with cancer . Today, she is in remission, and now we’re ready to try again-slowly, sustainably , and together , with your support.
THE HEART BEHIND OUR GOAL
We understand , it’s a big ask —but it represents the investment needed to build something lasting and meaningful for our village .
We know this is an ambitious goals , but every donation-big or small, your support moves us closer to making a real impact. Even if we don’t reach the full amount straight away, every pound will be used with care, transparency, and purpose to meet urgent needs, one step at a time.
This amount is a roughly estimate based on the real cost of building and running the school, Setting up the water system, and creating a basic health post.
We have done our best to calculate what’s needed- but costs may shift as the project moves forward.
We’ll share regular updates so you can see how funds are being used and how your support is changing lives.
WHAT YOUR SUPPORT MEANS
Your donation— whether it’s £5, £10 or more — will go directly to this project.
Every bit will be used with care. We’ll share progress, tell stories, and the real impact your generosity is making.
Together, we can help children learn, give families clean water, and offer life-saving care .
Thank you for reading — and for supporting something built on love, not charity.
With deep gratitude,
The Hope for the Hills Team
