Help Save the Endangered Andalusian Donkey – A Mission of Hope from Southern Spain
Hi, we’re Maddie, Molly, and Lucy – students from Friends Academy, Class of 2025 – and we’re reaching out with a mission that’s close to our hearts.
We’re currently on a service trip in Southern Spain, working with Las Bellotas Reserva del Asno Andaluz, a sanctuary dedicated to protecting one of the world’s rarest animals: the Andalusian donkey. These gentle, loving creatures—symbols of Spain’s cultural and agricultural heritage—are critically endangered. Today, only about 150 remain on Earth.
As young people who care deeply about the environment and the animals we share it with, we’ve come here to learn, help, and most importantly, protect. Every day, we work alongside Rafa, the humble and tireless manager of the reserve, who has dedicated his life to caring for these donkeys with compassion and selflessness. His work is inspiring—but he can’t do it alone.
That’s where you come in.
We’re launching this GoFundMe to help ease Rafa’s burden and support the reserve’s vital mission. Every dollar raised will go directly to the care, feeding, medical needs, and protection of these incredible animals. Our goal is to raise funds by June 7, and we need your help to make that happen.
Whether you can donate or share our campaign, your support means the world to us—and even more to these donkeys.
Thank you for standing with us,
Maddie, Molly & Lucy
