Hope for Tater - Spinal Surgery Support Fund

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Courtney and I’m fundraising for my sweet pup Tater and his unexpected medical bills.

We adopted Tater from Niagara Dog Rescue on September 16, 2023. He didn’t have the easiest start to life, but at 2 years old we vowed that he would never go without or suffer again. He will only receive love and treats from us. He was in his forever home.

On Friday May 23 in the late afternoon, some kids walked by our house and they know our dogs are barkers. The one started yelling bloody murder to get our dogs going - it worked. Our little Tater jumped off the couch like a maniac and injured his spine. He hid his pain well but by 3am he had lost mobility in his hind legs and so we rushed him to Hamilton Emergency. It was there they told us he was paralyzed and had a 50/50 chance of gaining his mobility back.

We were then transferred to OVC in Guelph where they did most tests to diagnose Tater with Acute onset ambulatory paraparesis suspected by spinal trauma - a herniated disc at grade 2/3. Surgery will fix this for him and give him a 90% chance at a full recovery.

Anyone who knows Tater, knows he’s a 3 year old spicy, spunky, full of life dog who is happy all the time. All he has is love to give. This whole situation has been extremely hard and we only want what’s best for Tater long term.

We are proud people and don’t ask for help - but for Tater to get the best medical care, we need some support. Times are tough for everybody right now, but as a young couple just desperate to help our rescue dog get the best chance possible at a full recovery we are asking for help. He deserves it.

Our final total vet bills equated to $13,000. Any donation would be amazing and we would be forever grateful for all of you. But if you don’t have the funds, a simple prayer for Tater and his recovery would mean the world as well.

Our hope and dream is Tater would make a full recovery to be able to do all the things that make him smile - running, jumping, playing and being his silly little self.

We have a long road to recovery, but we will not give up on a dog that has been given up on before.

Thank you all.
