Help Us Support Our Brave Heart Warrior, Svea

Our sweet two-year-old daughter, Svea, was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) — a rare and life-threatening congenital heart defect. In simple terms, Svea came into this world with only half a functioning heart.

There is no cure for HLHS. Survival depends on a series of complex open-heart surgeries or a heart transplant — and even then, the future is uncertain.

By just seven months old, Svea had already endured three open-heart surgeries. This June, she will face her fourth — and we hope, her final — surgery. While her medical team is hopeful, the road ahead is still filled with risk, recovery, and the unknown.

Living with a medically complex child is something no parent is ever truly prepared for. It’s been overwhelming, heart-wrenching, and at the same time, deeply inspiring. Through every setback and scar, Svea has redefined what it means to be brave, resilient, and full of life. Despite all she’s endured, she continues to grow, to thrive, and to love with all her heart.

Svea is joy personified. She lights up every room she walks into. If you catch her eye, she’ll greet you with a big smile and proudly ask for a high five or a fist bump. And if she senses you're having a tough day, she’ll offer you one of her signature hugs — the kind that melts mountains. She may have half a heart, but she gives love with everything she has.

We’ve poured every ounce of ourselves — emotionally, physically, and financially — into giving Svea the care she needs and deserves. But in the last year and a half, our family has faced additional challenges: my husband lost his job, and while he’s working tirelessly to build his own business, it hasn’t yet provided a steady, reliable income. On top of that, I’ll be taking unpaid leave from work to stay by Svea’s side throughout her surgery and recovery.

And so, with humble hearts, we are reaching out to our community — to friends, family, and compassionate strangers — to ask for help.
