My tiny 2kg dog Sophie (Sooz, Susan, Banophie) has been having a really, really hard week.

Just a few days ago she suddenly became very neurological—circling right, knuckling her left paws, and unable to get out of bed. Bloodwork showed elevated liver values, and an ultrasound revealed a large mass in her liver. A CT scan suggested the mass could be removed, so she went to surgery yesterday.

Once in surgery, the reality was much harder. The mass is incredibly vascular, attached to her portal vein, stomach, and pancreas, and comes from a part of the liver that can’t be resected. It was impossible to remove, and biopsies were taken. She lost a lot of blood during surgery, required a transfusion (donated by the surgeon’s own dog), and needed critical care including blood pressure support to help her through. I truly thought I was losing her.

By some miracle (the amazing team at Toronto Animal Health Partners), Sophie pulled through the night. She’s eating, cuddling, and showing that little spark of stubbornness that makes her who she is. We are now waiting on biopsy results to know what type of cancer this is, and meeting with oncology to explore next steps.

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a bit stubborn and not the type to ask for help—but Sophie means the world to me, and right now she needs more than I can give on my own. My whole career has been dedicated to saving the sickest pets, but right now I need help saving my own. The costs of emergency surgery, ICU care, and potential oncology treatments are overwhelming, and I’m reaching out to give her the best chance possible.

Any funds not used for Sophie’s care will be donated to a rescue charity - I don't have the mental clarity to pick one right now, but I'll update here as soon as possible.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading Sophie’s story and supporting us through this devastating time. Even sharing this campaign means so much.

With love,
Jamie, Moe & Sophie
