While many of us are focused on keeping our families safe from the pandemic that has impacted and affected all of us in some capacity this year, I am writing today in order to assist a family that has been hit very hard by cancer. I am not speaking of just any type of cancer, I am talking about Pancreatic Cancer. This is an extremely aggressive type of cancer. According to the Hopkins Institute, only between 5 to 10 percent of patients who have received a diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer live longer than 5 years. The family that I speak of is my sister, Shelle & her family. Shelle is the mother of two young boys and a wife to a loving husband, Clarence.
Shelle has been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer which in many cases has a bleak prognosis. She is scheduled to have emergency surgery this Friday in order to hopefully prevent the cancer from spreading to other organs inside her body. The procedure that she will be having is called the Whipple Procedure. The Whipple Procedure is a dangerous procedure that has some very serious risks associated with the surgery because it removes pieces of multiple organs inside the body. According to the surgeon she will only have a 40% chance of a positive outcome but God willing, that is a chance she is willing to take to be around for her husband and to watch her 2 young sons grow up.
To make matters worse, at this very time her husband Clarence is fresh out of the hospital recovering from a blood disorder that made him severely ill. In order to assist this family with medical costs, my family and I are setting up a GoFundMe page so that family, friends, and members of the community may assist them during this extremely trying time. My sister's family was very reluctant to do this because they do not want the spotlight on themselves, however, everyone greatly appreciates anything that may be contributed in order to assist them. Thank you in advance & God Bless!
