Help Tita Luchie Continue Her Fight Against Leukemia
For nearly 40 years, Tita Luchie, my friend Roma’s mother, devoted her life to serving others as a government employee at one of the Philippines’ leading children’s hospitals. She was a top blood donor and a tireless advocate, even leading efforts that secured the hospital’s land title in 2015.
Her life took a painful turn in July 2019, when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Forced into early retirement, she endured months of intensive chemotherapy. Roma, her only daughter working in Dubai, flew home three times that year to be by her side. The treatment left Tita Luchie frail and dependent on caregivers, but her strength never wavered. After months of recovery, she achieved remission and remained cancer-free for four years, even through the pandemic.
In October 2023, the cancer returned. After a brief round of chemotherapy, she travelled to Dubai to be with Roma in January 2024, where a change of environment gave her new life. She even travelled to Armenia to experience snow for the first time at the age of 69.
Sadly, in January 2025, she suffered another relapse. Doctors in Dubai recommended a new treatment plan involving weekly chemo injections and targeted oral medication. Roma secured help from a charity that covered three months of treatment, during which Tita Luchie showed steady improvement. But after six good cycles, the cancer returned again.
Today, she needs weekly platelet transfusions to stabilise her count and another round of chemotherapy to control the spread of cancer cells. Despite her determination, the costs of treatment and daily living have become overwhelming.
Roma and Tita Luchie are now facing this fight with courage, but they need help.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward her ongoing treatment and care.
Your kindness can cross oceans. Your generosity can give a daughter more time with the woman who raised her singlehandedly, and a mother more hope to keep going.
Please help Roma and Tita Luchie continue this fight.
