Hello, my name is Barbara. My husband has been diagnosed with end stage renal failure and is dependent on dialysis to survive. He has transitioned to home peritoneal dialysis, which gives him more stability and comfort—but it also requires specific home updates and safe storage for vast amounts of medical supplies.
Recently, we experienced a devastating setback: my husband’s vehicle was stolen. This was the car he used to get to medical appointments, lab work, and specialist visits—all essential for managing his health and maintaining hope for a future kidney transplant. I’m continuing to work to support our family, so reliable transportation for him is critical to keeping his care on track. While insurance paid a small amount, it is not enough to put him in a safe, dependable car that can meet the needs of transporting him and his wheelchair, as he is disabled and often needs this to get around.
At the same time, our home needs several updates to safely support his disability and the supplies required for home peritoneal dialysis. These supplies are delivered in large quantities every month, and we need a clean, secure place—such as a small shed—to store them safely and keep them organized.
How Your Support Will Be Used
• Help replace my husband’s stolen vehicle — $6,500
A safe, reliable used car so he can get to dialysis related appointments and transplant evaluations.
• Home safety & accessibility updates — $2,000
Small but important improvements—grab bars, lighting, clear pathways, minor repairs—to support his disability.
• Storage shed to make room for dialysis supplies — $2,000
A small, weather resistant, secure shed to free up space inside our home to store monthly peritoneal dialysis supply deliveries, which come in large boxes. This will ensure supplies stay clean, dry, and organized.
• ️ Additional storage & organization solutions — $1,000
Shelving, sealed bins, and other items needed to keep supplies accessible and sanitary.
• Dialysis setup & clean prep area — $1,000
Table or stand for cycling machine, air purifier, cable management, and cleaning materials/supplies recommended by the dialysis team.
• Emergency/unexpected medical or home needs — $1,500
A small cushion for urgent health or home necessities that may arise.
Total: $14,000

Why These Costs Matter (Updated)
• Transportation equals access to care.
My husband must attend frequent medical appointments, labs, and evaluations to stay eligible for a future kidney transplant. Replacing his stolen vehicle is essential for his health and independence.
• Home dialysis requires a safe, sanitary environment.
Peritoneal dialysis uses sterile supplies and equipment that must stay clean and dry. A proper setup at home reduces infection risk and improves treatment success.
• A storage shed isn’t really optional—it’s necessary.
PD supplies are delivered monthly in bulk. Without a shed or dedicated storage, boxes pile up quickly and have crowded our small living space. A shed would help us to organize more, keeping our living areas useable.
• Small home changes can bring safety and dignity.
Accessibility updates help him move more safely, reduce fall risks, and make daily life more manageable.
Your support helps my husband receive consistent care, stay safe at home, and hold onto hope for a future kidney transplant.
