I am a family friend of Mrs. Bailey. I have admired her all my life. Ms B, which she is affectionately called is an early childhood teacher that has dedicated her entire life to teaching children for over 30 years, and not only does she teach them, she also ensures that all students that she had the privilege to teach actually learn. I wished that all teachers were exactly like her. She is the epitome of dedication, patience, and kindness. Simply putting it, Ms B has the gift of teaching. No student that has ever been in her classroom has ever left without significant improvement. Miss B has the ability to teach the declared unteachables and all disadvantaged children that she comes in contact with. She often goes well beyond the call of duty to ensure that her students learn.
Sadly Ms B has fallen ill and struggles to keep up with the pace of a demanding career as she had been admitted to the hospital multiple times over the years. Her health condition has worsened rapidly because she was not able to afford proper health care on the meager subsidy of $JA 30,000 monthly that she is being paid by the Ministry of Education despite having over 30 years of experience. She now requires emergency surgery. Hear health has deteriorated to the point where she has passed out several times. Despite this Ms B frequently has to make the choice between going to the doctor or going to work, she often chooses the latter as she simply cannot afford to miss a day from work.
Sadly to say this is the plight of many hard working employees. Many of us have been told go to school, work hard, go to college, get a career, get a good job and you will be fine. MS B has followed all these advice , complied with all requirements, has even returned to college to complete a teacher training 7 years ago. She has never received an increase in pay or any retroactive payment post teacher training despite numerous attempts to acquire compensation from the Ministry of Education.
Despite poor pay and poor health, Ms B continues to show up to work. She has now fallen seriously behind in rent, utility bills, and often unable to buy nourishing food as she uses most of her pay to keep up with her medication and to pay for transportation. Her health is worsening daily. Please assist Ms B by donating whatever you can to assist her in getting the surgery that she needs, thus giving her hope...the kind of hope that she has given to countless students. Thank you.
