Hello everyone,
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit this page and read Mark’s story.
We are fundraising to help Mark access specialist Brain Cancer treatment in Germany following his NHS treatment, in the hope of giving him more time, a better quality of life, and continued moments with the people who love him most.
Diagnosis and current treatment
Earlier this year, Mark was diagnosed with stage 4 Brain Cancer, Glioblastoma. This is an extremely aggressive brain cancer, with a typical median survival of 15-18 months after diagnosis, with only about 5-10% of patients surviving five years.
As the tumor was inoperable, Mark has undergone intensive Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy treatment through the NHS. Whilst we are incredibly grateful for this care, treatment options available through standard NHS care are very limited and are unlikely to significantly prolong life.
Brain Cancer treatment in Germany
Following extensive research and discussions with specialists, we are hoping for Mark to access private immunotherapy treatment at the IOZK clinic in Germany.
This treatment aims to strengthen and activate a patient's own immune system so that it can kill cancer cells. In the best-case scenario, it provides long-term protection against new cancer cells. This could slow tumour progression (in some cases, removing it altogether), improve quality of life, and most importantly, give Mark more precious time with his family.
While this is not a guaranteed cure, it represents hope, something every family facing Brain Cancer desperately needs.
We need your help
The reality is that this treatment comes at a significant financial cost. The estimated total required for ongoing treatment is £200,000, which includes:
- Specialist treatment in Germany
- Ongoing therapy blocks
- Medication and medical monitoring
- Associated medical expenses
Asking for help is difficult, but we want to give Mark every possible chance. Every donation, no matter how small, helps move us closer to accessing treatment that could extend Mark’s time and maintain his quality of life.
Any funds raised will be used solely for Mark’s medical treatment and associated costs. Should circumstances change and funds remain unused, they will be donated to Brain Cancer research charities.
If you are unable to donate, sharing this page can make an enormous difference.
About Mark
Anyone who knows Mark will already know what a truly kind, warm and selfless person he is. He is someone who always puts others first. The person who listens, supports, and quietly looks after those around him without ever expecting anything in return. Mark has a natural ability to make people feel comfortable and valued, and his friendliness and genuine care for others have shaped so many meaningful relationships throughout his life.
As a director at Johnson’s Jewellery, Mark has built not only a successful career, but lasting connections with customers and colleagues alike, many of whom think incredibly highly of him. His work has never just been about business. It’s about people, trust, and the relationships he has nurtured over many years.
Family and friendships are at the centre of everything Mark does. He is a proud father to his son Conor, who is married to Izzy, and Mark has very recently become a Grandparent to Conor and Izzy’s son Artie. He shares his life with his partner of 24 years, Linda, and is a much-loved part of the wider family alongside Linda’s children, Luke and Eva, all of whom share a close and special bond with him.
Before his brain cancer diagnosis, Mark lived life to the fullest. He has always been adventurous, active, and full of curiosity about the world. He loves playing Golf, Hiking, spending time with his close friends, and exploring the world. Just last year, he and Linda spent 6 unforgettable weeks travelling across Argentina & Chile, something that perfectly reflects Mark’s love of exploration, new experiences and making the most out of every moment.
Even throughout the immense challenges of his diagnosis and treatment, Mark continues to show remarkable resilience. Despite everything he is facing, he still manages to smile, crack jokes, and ask others how they are doing, a reflection of the kindness and strength that define him. His positivity and courage during such an incredibly difficult time continue to inspire everyone around him.
Thank you
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, generosity and support during the most difficult time our family has ever faced. Your support gives us something invaluable. Hope.
With gratitude,
Linda and family
