Hope for Maria Morton

Donation protected

On March 25, 2019, Maria Morton was admitted to the hospital for what doctors believed was a stroke. Further testing through CT and MRI scans revealed a tumor on the left side of her brain. On March 29th,  she had brain surgery to remove the tumor. The medical team was perplexed due to the rock-like consistency of the mass and the family anxiously awaited pathology results...

...unfortunately, the test results indicated the tumor is cancerous. Maria's diagnosis is Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma (large b-cell). Primary CNS Lymphoma is a rare type of blood cancer that medical science still does not understand well. You can learn more about Primary CNS Lymphoma by clicking HERE. One of the risk-factors for this type of cancer is having a compromised immune system, which Maria has due to her decades-long battle with Lupus. You can learn more about Lupus by clicking HERE .

Maria began her chemotherapy on April 5th. Her doctors will assess the next steps after completion of several cycles, which may ultimately include radiation. Although this is an aggressive type of cancer, her doctors believe it is possible to either manage the cancer long-term  or even cure it. Praise God!

Why I'm Requesting Your Help

Maria was visiting Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to care for her mother, who recently had hip replacement surgery when the tumor was discovered. She is a resident of Reno, Nevada and many of her health needs are being treated as out-of-network; however, some may be covered due to emergency circumstances. Even still, extensive testing is needed to monitor her recovery and ensure the cancer is not spreading into other regions of her body. Many of the medical equipment and services will ultimately fall under out-of-pocket expenses. While it is impossible to determine this out-of-pocket amount, her insurance coverage is only 70% at best.* Her medical costs will easily be several thousands of dollars, which is why I am humbly asking you to consider donating to this worthy cause. I am estimating the following:

- $40,000
-  If her insurances denies her coverage, this money will go directly toward her medical bills. If insurance does cover their portion of treatment, this money will go directly toward her deductible and 30% out-of-pocket responsibility.

- $20,000
- Once Maria is discharged, she will need medical equipment, medical supplies, medical  transport, etc. that insurance will not cover.

Other Ways You Can Help

Maria believes in God the Healer and the power of prayer, and so I ask that you remember Maria in your prayers. She has a long journey ahead of her, but she is confident in God's love for her and His ability to restore her to full health!

About Gina: My name is Gina Boyd and I created this Go Fund Me page for my Aunt Maria because she would never ask herself. She wouldn't want to put anyone out. She has taken care of people her entire life. and no one is more giving and willing to help someone in need than she. And now, in her time of need, it's my prayer that I and others she has touched can give back to her - through prayer and/or donations. If you have any questions, please reach out to me directly at [email redacted]. Thank you all for your generosity!
