Hope for Marcy Walz: Her Battle Against Brain Cancer
Donation protected
On Friday March 1st, after all her daycare kiddos had gone home for the evening, Marcy headed to the local Emergency room to be seen for a persistent headache and a general sense of feeling a bit ‘off’. After some initial testing and various imaging, A large tumor was identified on Marcy’s left frontal lobe. Due to the size and location of the tumor, Marcy’s care team determined that surgery was needed to relieve pressure on her brain. On Sunday, Marcy underwent a successful operation to remove the mass and send samples off for biopsy. The pathology report revealed devastating news. Marcy was diagnosed with highly aggressive stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM).
The past month has been filled with tests, appointments, imaging, more appointments and trying to digest the magnitude of this life changing diagnosis. After exploring several options, Marcy has enrolled in a clinical trial at the Mayo in Rochester. The trial will consist of a vigorous treatment regimen that will include radiation, and specialized imaging to help target the tumor. This will be on top of an anticipated initial 6 months of chemotherapy. While insurance is certainly helpful, we know that there is always an abundance of uncovered and unexpected expenses that arise at times like these. This of course comes in addition to the fact that Marcy needed to abruptly close her home daycare and in turn has suffered a significant loss of income.
Marcy is a true Gem and integral part of our community. She has provided childcare to countless families in the 36 years that she operated her in home daycare. To know Marcy is to love her, her kind eyes, giving heart, and playful spirit have been a blessing to all. Marcy has spent her entire adult life caring for others, but the time has come for us to return the love and care!
We humbly ask our friends and community to show Marcy & Rick Walz both love and support through the gift of a monetary donation. It is our hopes to alleviate the financial stress and burden as they navigate the days ahead. All proceeds will be directed to Marcy and Rick to help cover any unpaid medical expenses, hotels while receiving treatments down at the Mayo Clinic, and everyday living expenses.
A note from the family: We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming love and support we have received over the past month and remain thankful for the ongoing support as we navigate the journey ahead. Whether through donations or prayers for successful treatment and recovery, every gesture of kindness is truly appreciated. ~ The Walz family
