Help Our Mom Fight Cancer – Every Bit Helps
Hi everyone,
We never imagined we’d be in a position to ask for this kind of help, but we have learned through this journey that it’s okay to lean on others when life gets heavy.
Our names are Marcie Swetlishoff and Dasha Swetlishoff and we’re reaching out during one of the most difficult times in our lives — our beloved mother Linda Swetlishoff (some of you may know her as Jo) was diagnosed with cancer in May 2021. As anyone who’s walked this path knows, it's an overwhelming journey — emotionally, physically, and financially. Since the initial diagnosis mom has been working with a doctor from Texas, USA as well as her naturopath and family doctor. Mom was doing great, the mass was shrinking and she was feeling great. In July 2025 we started noticing a few changes that had us concerned so we got mom to see her doctor as soon as she was able to. Fast forward to September 2025 we have received results from her recent CT Scan and it shows the cancer has now spread to mom's lungs, vertebrae in her spinal cord and her breast.
While she is receiving care from an incredible medical team, her treatment requires frequent travel to Kelowna Cancer Clinic for radiation 4 hours away from home. This means ongoing costs for gas, lodging – as she will be required to stay for 4-5 weeks per visit, meals, and other travel-related expenses that are quickly adding up.
We’re setting up this GoFundMe to help ease the financial burden of:
Travel expenses to and from treatment
Hotel stays during multi-week treatments
Meals and basic living costs while away from home
Frequent hospital visits
Our mom has always been the one to show up for others — family, friends, neighbors — and now she needs our help. Any donation, big or small, will go directly toward making sure she gets to every treatment safely and with the comfort and care she deserves.
If you’re able to donate—no matter the amount—we will be endlessly grateful. Every dollar helps lighten the load, and your support allows Linda (Jo) to focus on what truly matters: healing and staying hopeful for the future.
If you’re not in a place to give financially, we completely understand. Sharing this campaign and keeping our mom in your thoughts and prayers means more than words can express.
Thank you for your love and support during this time. We’ll continue to post updates on her progress and journey along the way.
With gratitude,
Marcie Swetlishoff, Dasha Swetlishoff
