A Note from Our Family
Hi everyone,
We’re writing this with heavy hearts and a lot of vulnerability. We’ve never been the type to ask for help—we much prefer being the ones offering it—so this is incredibly difficult for us to share.
Recently, our sweet girl Kya took a sudden turn for the worse. We rushed her to the animal hospital last Saturday evening, after noticing her breathing was dangerously fast—between 70 and 120 breaths per minute, when it should be closer to 15–30. The doctors diagnosed her with severe pneumonia, pulmonary hypertension, as well as possible blood clots in her lungs.
The hardest part is that, despite being so sick, Kya is still her usual, loving self. She doesn’t realize how much danger she’s in, but the emotional and financial weight of her care has been overwhelming for us. Our vet bills have already climbed into the tens of thousands, and we are doing everything we can to give her a fighting chance.
If you are in a position to help us with her medical funds, we would be eternally grateful for any support you can offer.
Some Hopeful News:
Today (1/30/26), we finally got a glimmer of hope. She had a procedure today where they stitched oxygen tubes to her nose, and she’s starting new antibiotics and medication to help clear her lungs. Kya’s breathing has stabilized to 24–40 breaths per minute—much closer to where it needs to be! She’s been moved out of the oxygen chamber and into a regular recovery space.
We aren't out of the woods yet, but it feels like she’s fighting her way back to us, and we want to be able to give her her best chance.
We love you all so much. Please keep our dear pup in your thoughts and prayers.
With love,
Kya, Caitlin, and Chris
