It has been a long while since Kira has made big improvements in her therapies. Sure progress is progress but her body is calling for more. She’s 10 now so the more intense the therapy for her, the better the attainment.
Since we heard of the NAPA center here right in our backyard (Los Angeles) we have been dreaming of taking Kira there! It has a very long waiting list and books a year in advance because of how popular it is for kids with neurological disabilities and CP. We toured the facility and will be getting a SPOT. Kira will have the chance to attend the NAPA Center intensive therapy program for THREE WEEKS!! Five days a week, four hours a day!! That's 60 hours of incredible, intensive, amazing therapy!!! And Kira will finally get a chance to participate!! We have watched our friends attend, and all of them have made incredible strides! Our friend Angel began to eat by mouth, our friend Max is increasing his coordination, our friend Mary is sooooo close to learning to walk!!!
I will explain further Kira’s journey in the center as we go along! But let me tell you, this will be the beginning of something incredible for Kira!
Some may not know her story and to make it short she was born with a chromosome abnormality, partial Trisomy 10. That comes along with developmental delay, weakness, systems not working properly etc. She has had multiple surgeries, diaphragmatic hernia repair, bowel obstruction that resulted in a colostomy for a year, hip dislocation surgery, fundoplication, Gtube placement, strabismus repair, okay I could go on but most likely bore you.
As you know Kira is a determined little warrior and she does best when intensive therapy is applied. She is getting soooo much better in her feeding therapy and assisted walking! We just know that this will be opening her development and pushing out her encaged abilities.
Our family works hard to provide Kira with everything she needs, and her needs always amount to more than we can handle. That comes with the diagnosis. We want Kira to have the best quality of life possible, and we hold on hope that attending these intensives is the way to make that happen. With the communities help, and with the help of our closest friends, family, and even strangers who have been so kind, Kira has been able to achieve so much! So, here we are, asking for help from our people! Every little bit helps Kira reach new inchstones and milestones, and achieve amazing things that we take for granted every day. Thank you for helping us give Kira the best of the best!!
